Lois K. Alexander-Lane was a visionary who devoted her life to preserving and celebrating Black fashion history. She founded the Harlem Institute of Fashion in 1966 and went on to establish the Black Fashion Museum in 1979, widely recognized as the first organized archive and museum in the United States dedicated to collecting, preserving, and showcasing the work of Black fashion designers and creators.
